The
Research and Development (R&D) Cell at Viswam Engineering College
(VEC) is established in the year 2017 with the vision to foster a culture
of innovation, research, and academic excellence across all departments of the
institution. The R&D Cell acts as the nodal centre for promoting and
coordinating research initiatives, both fundamental and applied, in line with
the needs of society and industry.

The
R&D Cell endeavours to create an ecosystem that encourages faculty and
students to engage in interdisciplinary research, explore emerging
technologies, and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems to help
society. It supports the ideation-to-implementation journey by offering
guidance in project proposal writing, securing research grants, patent filing,
and collaboration with external agencies and industries.

With
a strong commitment to knowledge creation, the R&D Cell regularly organizes
workshops, seminars, conferences, and training programs to build research
competencies. It also ensures alignment with national missions, such as Make
in India, Digital India, Startup India, and the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), thereby contributing to the nation’s
technological and socio-economic growth.

The
R&D Cell envisions becoming a recognized hub for impactful research and
technological advancement that not only elevates the academic profile of VEC
but also benefits the wider community.

Objectives of R&D Cell

• To promote a research culture by encouraging faculty and students to conduct research, innovation and development activities.
• To support academic research by guiding and supporting faculty members and student in writing research proposals, paper writing, and patent filing.
• To provide assistance for publishing in reputed journal and conferences.
• To strengthen industry institution interaction by bridging the gap between academia and industry through collaborative research and consultancy projects.
• Foster Innovation and Entrepreneurship by promoting technology-based innovations and assist in product development, incubation and start-up ventures.
• To assist the faculty members to secure the funding opportunities from different funding agencies.
• To enhance academic research profile and reputation through high quality research outputs and collaborations.

Core functionalities R&D Cell

• To identify the research problems of societal, industrial and scientific importance.
• Helping faculty members and student members to write a research proposal and documentation for internal and external funding.
• Establishing MoUs and partnerships with other academic institutions, research centres and industries.
• Assist the faculty and students in publishing papers in reputed journal and conferences, filing intellectual property rights (IPR) such as patents, copyrights, and trademarks.
• Maintain a research database and monitor ongoing research activities and outcomes.
• Evaluation of external and internal funded projects, UG and PG student projects.
• Organize FDPs, workshops and training programs on research methodology, research ethics, proposal writing, use of research tools etc.
• Timely dissemination of information about call for proposals from different funding agencies like DST, AICTE, UGC, DRDO, ICSSR etc.
• Preparing annual R&D report, providing research data to accreditations (NBA/NAAC) and ranking institution (NIRF), maintain the records of publications, patents, research proposals and achievements of faculty and students.
